|Steve Hunter||Service Record||List of Appearances|
Steve is Phil Hunter's good looking, slightly naïve, younger brother who has arrived, to Phil's irritation, to join Sun Hill as the newest Probationer. Steve idolizes his older brother, but never really contemplated himself working as a copper until the horrifying death of his best mate. He decided then it would be a way for him to try and make a difference. Because of the violent nature of his mate's death Steve takes the unpopular view that police should be armed against the increasingly dangerous streets of London. He thinks the Americans have it right. Be safe, be armed…
Though it wasn't his first choice of career, Steve takes his duties quite seriously. If he's going to do the job, then he'll do it with the best of intentions. Others in the relief might worry about Steve's seemingly ad-hock views of gun-laws and the subject will raise quite a bit of debate, but Steve is adamant. The future is guns, whether we like it or not.
Still, Steve is a likeable guy, slightly awkward and seemingly unaware of the dreamy spells he casts on his female colleagues. He is reckless with his views but somehow they don't seem to offend. Phil is mortified to learn his young pup of a brother has joined Sun Hill and it isn't long before Phil is pleading with Neil to have him transferred. Still, when all is said and done, the brothers are close. After a tough upbringing they've managed to pull through.
Steve can be surprisingly bright and insightful. He is an old soul who feels deeply he clings to his emotions and can be overwhelmed by them, unlike Phil who got tough after the old man left. Steve is also unexpectedly spiritual and, though he respects the Catholic faith, is still looking for his own set of beliefs and rituals to believe in. Since his mate's death, this quest has elevated and will continue to do so. Again, unlike his brother, Steve is a believer in love. He is confused and terrified but can't wait to be 'hit' by the big one. As he finds his feet at Sun Hill, so will he find new confidence, new friends, and new beginnings.
