List of Appearances

Insolent but suave, the smouldering Rod Skase was scared of nothing and no one. Tall and handsome, he towered above many of his Sun Hill colleagues and had the arrogance to match his stature. Generally, his intelligence and dedication to the job meant that he tended to get away with an offhand manner, but his attitude did not always endear him to his colleagues, some of whom did not trust him at all. In his mind he ran CID, although more often than not his overwhelming self-confidence left him with egg on his face.

From a middle class family in Kent, Skase was in fact intelligent. That stopped him from being so impertinent with his superiors that he’d be thrown out. And he was quick-thinking. But his inexperience often lead him up blind alleys and that was why his success rate could be seen as quite negligible. He came into the force because he wanted to be a hero. He had a strong personal hatred of petty villains, especially drug-dealers. He had seen his own brother fall victim to drugs.

Sun Hill was his second posting as a DC within the Met. and they didn't expect it to be his last. With his sharp suits and slicked-back hair, he reckoned he was God's gift to women as well as to the job. In his mind women were predictable and weak, something which riled the WDCs like Croft whom he often partnered. A physical type, Skase thought himself superior to uniform too and his caustic wit caused others to give him a wide berth. His abrasiveness came into its own in a tight corner, where he was useful to have on your side - if only he stayed there. He'd always be the one to profit from any fallout he provoked.

In the end Skase's pride came before a spectacular fall. When it emerged that he had bullied a witness into lying in order to get a result that ultimately led to the death of a child, Skase chose to walk before Meadows could sack him or have him charged with perverting the course of justice. Hot Rod was out in the cold.
