Idris Elba was born 6 September, 1972 in Hackney, London. He is an English actor, producer, singer, rapper and DJ who is known for playing Janek in the 2012 film Prometheus. Other notable films Elba has appeared in include 28 Weeks Later (2007), Thor (2011), Pacific Rim (2013), Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). Aside from his work in film, Elba has had an extensive career in television. He is perhaps best known for his roles in two critically acclaimed crime drama series — Russell "Stringer" Bell in The Wire and DCI John Luther in Luther.
Elba has won a Golden Globe, and has been nominated for a further two Golden Globes and three Emmys.
