Acting DI Sam Nixon hustles Abigail and Glenn Weston into the station as reporter Dougie Pritchard approaches with a camera. Nixon wants Abi to have nothing to do with Weston, but he is insistent, and she agrees to meet with him to discuss terms. DS Phil Hunter uses Nixon's personal crisis to go over her head to DCI Jack Meadows to approve surveillance on Sid Wright, a security guard he believes is involved in the armed hold-up. Hunter's persistance pays off when it transpires Wright is planning a raid on the Metropolitan Police warehouse, and DC Ken Drummond is hastily drafted back into his undercover security guard persona. New PC Gabriel Kent starts at Sun Hill, but despite his age and ambition, his "puppywalker" PC Tony Stamp shows no mercy from the usual jokes played on probationers. PC Des Taviner confronts Sgt Sheelagh Murphy with his feelings for her, and despite her initial objections, the two end up going home together.

Sgt June Ackland recalls seeing PC Kent "about six weeks ago." Their brief encounter was in [[Episode 119]], broadcast on 5 June 2003.

PC Kent's epaulette number is unlucky SO416 – recycled from the ill-fated PCs Ken Melvin (killed by a car bomb in 1990) and Sam Harker (died after the 2002 Sun Hill explosion).

Set in Sydney, Australia, the episode follows the disgraced DS [[Beech, Don|Don Beech]] as he attempts to build a new life for himself with his Vietnamese-Australian girlfriend Frankie, taking part in bank robberies and drugs deals. His new life is brought to an abrupt end when he discovers that [[Stanton, Claire|Clare Stanton]] has followed him to Australia and is pursuing him with help from the Australian police. Stanton eventually tracks him to the harbour as he's preparing to leave the country. As Beech sails away, she opens fire and his boat explodes, seemingly killing him.

She was less open, more cynical and defensive, particularly when she had to return to the station from retirement to pay off the debts accrued by ex-husband DC Jim Carver. This was a new tough June, ready to pack her punches. She mellowed slightly upon meeting headteacher Rod Jessop though, whom she ultimately decided to retire with after 23 years at Sun Hill.

Kerry's self-destructive behaviour after her rape in the hands of the evil Gabriel led her to helping DC Rob Thatcher to expose the highly criminal family, the Radfords by going unofficially undercover and even starting a relationship with David Radford. Smithy had become alarmed by Kerry's self-destructive behaviour and when he learned of her undercover mission with the Radfords, he sussed her out but then organised a raid when she reported what she had discovered. However, Irene, David and Wayne Radford discovered Smithy and he and Kerry were exposed as police officers, resulting in the two nearly getting killed in the fallout. But despite the attempted murder, Kerry continued to consort with David and when later exposed, Inspector Gina Gold warned her that her career at Sun Hill was on the line.

However, Kerry soon realised where her priorities lay when she caught David with another woman. When David held an armed robbery, Kerry sabotaged the operation and arrested him. But when it seemed that David Radford would finally be put away, Irene Radford presented evidence proving that Kerry had helped plan the robbery and persuaded David to go through with it in the first place, acting as an agent provocateur. This resulted in Kerry being arrested and suspended from the Met.

Essex man DS Danny Pearce looked ready for the Costa Del Crime. Blame the flash suits, gold watch and dark Mediterranean looks. Pearce looked like a villain and he could think like one, too - which made him very useful in Sun Hill CID. It may be why DI Johnson took a shine to him. He tried to make it plain that he had no problem working for a woman. He had no problem with any of the police practices, come to that. A cop for 1990s, that was him. Or rather, that's what he had chosen as his image. Scratch the surface, and there was a regular, ambitious, capable cop, one who was not averse to landing a colleague in trouble if that way he himself escaped. That's what he did to Loxton, when his snout's information led Johnson to head a drugs bust in completely the wrong place. He could be snide about his colleagues, too - and it's a fair bet that he had skeletons in his cupboard at the nick in Romford where he worked previously. When Jarvis and McCann were having trouble making an arrest stick, he told them about his former sergeant whom he watched blatantly twisting the facts to secure a similar arrest. Pearce may have inherited Roach's desk, but he was a newer, slicker model. He transferred to AMIP, briefly returning to help Meadows investigate a murder in 1996.
